Get to know, Victoria of Victoria Tillotson Jewelry

It's been a while since we've had a new jewelry designer at Beehive and we are so thrilled to welcome Victoria Tillotson.  We are loving her nature-inspired rings, bracelets and earrings. Here's a little bit about this very busy, prolific artist.

What do you design/make, & what materials do you use?
I make jewelry in sterling silver, brass, gold and gemstones. Right now my inspiration is the natural forms in my backyard, but I'm always looking to do big statement pieces, too!

When did you start designing/making?
I started making jewelry about 15 years ago after completing a doctorate in the humanities. I had always loved antique jewelry so this was a logical next step. I took courses at School of Visual Arts in NYC and shortly after starting, became an assistant and then instructor there. I've taught at SVA for 13 years now!

Is this your full-time gig? If not, how do you make time to create in your hectic life?

Jewelry is my love and for the most part, my life. I have made jewelry on a large scale in the past, garnered lots of press and editorials, and made television appearances and videos. I also wrote a book (Chic Metal: Modern Metal Jewelry to Make at Home). Now I've stepped away from the hectic schedule of being a commercial jeweler, and focus on teaching, mentoring, and just making what I want whether it's in fashion or not.

What are you working on right now?
I am always looking to learn new techniques so I can better my teaching skills. Right now I'm working in wax and also doing advanced stone setting techniques. I also did my first foray into PMC. When not making jewelry, I'm working on Surviving Beautifully, a book and website created to assist women with beauty issues during cancer treatment. It's an inspiring partnership with a 5-year breast cancer survivor and we are thrilled to be able to help many women through this terrible time!
