Get to know, Scott of Macula Design

Our youngest designer is rising high school senior Scott Silver who joined the Beehive this past July.  He introduced his OM t-shirt design to the shop to enthusiastic reviews, including getting written up in Westchester Magazine -not bad for his first foray into surface design! Learn a little more about Scott and check out his Westchester Magazine story here.

What do you make?
I'm a graphic designer who sells shirt designs and logos for mostly start up companies around the country. On the side, I make digital graphics that I print on shirts and framed art that I sell through my company. I strive for a modern indie feel to my designs.

 When did you start designing?
I started designing this past year when sports were taken away from me by concussions and, ultimately, back problems. I’ve always had creative thoughts, but it wasn’t until recently that I was able to expand on them and turn them into art.

Is this your full-time gig?
Other than school work and babysitting jobs, I try to give myself the most possible time to work on my designs. This has been my favorite hobby because I don’t have to live up to any set expectations. I work from my own mind and on my own time. It’s great.

What are you working on now?
I’m working on a collection of designs that have eyes implemented in them. A macula, which is what my company is named after, is a part of the eye that is responsible for one’s central, high resolution vision. I’ve been working a lot with irises, too. Every iris is unique in itself and is filled with different colors, widths, and shapes.
