Get to know, Melinda of Mirame Swim

Did you know we had swim wear at the Beehive? Well, we do!  Meet Melinda Huff, read a bit about her fresh, modern line that's made right here in the USA!

What do you design/make, & what materials do you use?
Mirame is a collection of sophisticated and fashionable swimwear for the classic woman. Our styles offer mid to full coverage in a solids-driven range. Mirame creates a seamless style that takes a woman from beach to bistro. Our suits are proudly made in the USA sourcing predominantly domestically made components.

When did you start designing/making your line?  Mirame was founded in 2011.  I have been designing most of my life, and spent some time during my teenage years living in Hawaii.  While there, I started making swimsuits and selling them on the beach.  I fell in love with the medium and moved back to NY to pursue a career in fashion.  I found myself running the sampleroom of iconic swimwear designer Norma Kamali.  After leaving the post, I started Mirame.

Is this your full-time gig? If not, how do you make time to create in your hectic life?  Mirame is my full time gig.  However, I am a mother and wife, and it is difficult finding the time and energy to give the business my all.  Everyday is take your daughter to work day!  Luckily, I have a large family around me who is always eager to help out.

What are you working on right now?   We are currently working on Spring 2015.  We will be showing at Swim Fashion Week for the first time.  We are also in the process of launching Triangles For Charity, our new Zero Waste initiative that utilizes fabric scraps to create fresh styles.  15% of the profit from this program benefits Honduras Hope, a non-profit that supports the rural and marginalized communities in my mother's native Honduras.
