Against Wind and Tide is a collection of previously unpublished diaries and letters of writer Anne Morrow Lindbergh (1906-2001) from her 40th to 80th birthdays. The material includes letters to her husband, aviator Charles A. Lindbergh, from 1947 until his death in 1974, as well as letters to her five children. Anne Lindbergh addresses very personal concerns – marriage and childbearing, the struggle to balance a woman’s life and an artist’s work – and larger issues such as the devastation of Europe after World War II, the assassination of President Kennedy, and the conflicts in families and in the nation over the Vietnam War.
